Fair Housing Laws

Fair Housing is Everyone's Right!

Stating a discriminatory preference in a housing post is illegal.

RLS Alliance strictly follows fair housing laws with zero tolerance for actions breaking those laws. When you make any posting on RLS Alliance, you must comply with your local laws, geographical fair housing acts, rental rules, and government fair housing regulations. Most of the laws generally prohibit stating, in any notice or ad for the sale or rental of a dwelling, a discriminatory preference based on any of the following protected categories:

  • Race
  • Color
  • Caste
  • Place of origin
  • Language
  • Religion
  • Sex
  • Familial status
  • Handicap/Disability
  • Marital status
  • Financial status
  • Age

Your local regulations, geographical fair housing acts, government fair housing acts, and rental regulations provide additional protections, and limited exceptions, that are explained in the publications of your governing agencies.

Your geographic governing agencies also issue guidance on advertising including sharing and subletting, etc. Please contact your local agency for further information or to report discrimination.

If you feel a housing posting on RLS Alliance violates fair housing laws, email fairhousinglaws@rlsalliance.com and we will review the listing immediately.
